신당중앙시장 지하 한켠, 이시평과 윤지훈이 함께 조성한 ‘비밀 아지트’가 자리하고 있다. 비밀스러운 공간에서 두 작가는 ‘금속’과 ‘세라믹’ 소재를 매개로, 익숙한 인식 너머에 감춰진 물성의 낯선 인상을 탐색한다. 겉보기에 이질적으로 보이지만 각 소재는 ‘철분(Fe)’이라는 붉은색 기원(起源)을 공유하고 있다. 그 기원을 따라 두 작가는 서로 맞닿은 정반대의 호흡—‘산화(oxidation)’와 ‘환원(reduction)’—을 통해 잠재된 성질을 특정 사물의 형태로 끌어올리고자 한다.

금속은 거칠게 토해내고, 반대로 도자는 조용히 들이마신 뒤 오래도록 머금는다. 하나의 대지에서 태어난 동색(同色)의 질료임을 암시하듯 서로 다른 것으로 여겨졌던 물질 사이에서 보이지 않던 연결성이 서서히 드러나기 시작한다. 마치 어둠 속에서 더욱 또렷해지는 빛처럼, 지하 깊숙이 숨어 있던 감각들이 선명하게 떠오른다.

Metal and ceramic, though seemingly disparate, are bound by a shared, red-hued origin: iron (Fe). Following this connection, the two artists, working from their secret underground hideout, explore hidden materialities through the opposing processes of oxidation and reduction, discovering unfamiliar impressions of material.

Metal exhales roughly, while ceramic inhales quietly and holds its breath for a long time. This is not simply about how materials breathe, but about the quiet resonance formed between two artists through the differing tempos of their practice.
