Inlay is a technique in which different materials are inserted into recessed surfaces and combined within a single object. Focusing on how different materials create contrast and harmony within a single surface, this work explores the material relationship between leather and metal.
Leather gradually darkens over time, while the metal mirror reflects our changing image. Although the two materials possess distinct physical qualities, each reveals the passage of time in its own way. Focusing on the temporal qualities inherent in these materials, the work evokes the traces each of us accumulates throughout life, like the waxing and waning of the moon.
