사물에는 겉으로 드러난 성질뿐 아니라 쉽게 인식하기 어려운 성질과 영역이 존재한다. 특정한 가공을 통해 숨겨져 있던 물성을 드러내고, 하나의 물체 안에 서로 다른 영역이 형성될 수 있음을 시각화한다. 고온에서 생산되어 거친 질감을 지닌 열연강판(검은 철)은 변형이 쉽지 않은 견고한 상태로 보이지만, 반복적인 마찰을 통해 표면을 벗겨내면 은폐되어 있던 은색 영역이 드러난다. 작품은 하나의 물체가 고정된 단일한 상태가 아니라 지속적인 개입과 작용에 따라 서로 다른 영역으로 구분될 수 있음을 보여준다.
This work visualizes how distinct areas can emerge within a single object through a particular process. Produced at high temperatures, hot-rolled steel appears solid and resistant to deformation, with its rough surface reinforcing this impression. Yet through repeated friction, the surface is gradually worn away, revealing a concealed silver surface beneath. The work demonstrates how a single object, rather than remaining in a fixed and unified state, can be divided into distinct areas through continuous intervention and action.
