〈통로 관찰자(Passage Observer)〉는 기획전시 《통과의례(Rite of Passage)》의 일환으로 설치된 작품으로, 신당중앙시장 지하에 위치한 ‘신당창작아케이드 레지던시’의 장소성과 공간 구조를 모티브로 한다. 레지던시는 긴 복도를 중심으로 구성되어 있으며, 그 양옆으로 입주 작가들의 작업실이 자리하고 있다. 처음 방문한 사람들은 통로처럼 끝없이 이어지는 복도에서 종종 길을 헤매기도 하고, 그 과정에서 자연스럽게 작업 중인 작가들의 모습을 발견하게 된다.
작품의 내부 후면은 거울로 이루어져 있어, 관람자로 하여금 통로 안에 갇힌 듯한 자신의 모습을 마주하게 한다. 반면, 전면의 작은 구멍 너머로는 소실점을 향해 끝없이 이어지듯 3D 알고리즘 작업이 펼쳐지며, 전시장에 들어오기 전 복도에서 마주했던 ‘익숙한 생동감’을 떠올리게 한다.

Passage Observer is an installation work presented as part of the exhibition Rite of Passage, drawing inspiration from the spatial character and architectural structure of the Sindang Creative Arcade Residency located beneath Sindang Jungang Market. The residency is organized around a long corridor, with artists’ studios positioned along both sides. First-time visitors often lose their way in the seemingly endless corridor and, in the process, naturally encounter artists absorbed in their work.
The rear interior of the work is lined with a mirror, confronting viewers with their own reflection as if trapped within the passage. In contrast, through a small opening at the front, a 3D algorithmic work appears to extend endlessly toward a vanishing point, recalling the “familiar vitality” encountered in the corridor before entering the exhibition space.
