공중에 부유하는 통로는 불빛의 흔적을 간직하고 있다. 성장통을 견디며 성숙한 어른으로 다시 태어나는 어느 부족의 의례처럼, 앙상한 뼈대 위에 새겨진 고열의 용접 자국은 단계를 거쳐 나아가는 통과의례의 상징처럼 보인다.
기획전시 《통과의례(Rite of Passage)》의 일환으로 제작된 설치 작품 〈Passage〉는 금속 재료를 가공하거나 용접할 때 필연적으로 발생하는 흔적을 성장 과정에서 남겨지는 상흔에 빗대어 제시한다.
The floating passage preserves traces of light. Like the ritual of a tribe in which one endures growing pains and is reborn as a mature adult, the high-temperature welding marks engraved upon the bare skeletal structure appear as symbols of a rite of passage progressing through successive stages.
The work, created as part of the exhibition Rite of Passage, presents the inevitable traces produced in the processes of machining and welding metals, reinterpreting them as ritualized scars that accompany the stages of growth.
