〈일지(Log)〉 시리즈는 목재와 금속 사이에서 생성되는 흔적을 조형적으로 기록한다. 목재에는 타닌(tannin) 성분이 함유되어 있어 산화된 금속과 장시간 접촉할 경우 표면이 점차 검게 변화한다. 작품은 목재 중에서도 타닌 함량이 높은 레드오크를 주재료로 사용하고, 그 위로 산화된 금속 오브제를 반복적으로 마찰시켜 물질의 흔적을 새겨 나간다.
옅은 갈색을 띠던 목재는 점차 어두워지고, 결국 칠흑과 같은 밀도가 축적된다. 금속 오브제 내부에는 철가루가 들어 있어 반복된 운동을 청각적으로 환기한다. 마치 일지를 써 내려가듯, 서로 다른 두 물질이 만들어낸 검은 흔적은 보이지 않는 시간성과 운동성을 드러내며, 변화하는 물질의 흐름을 시각화한다.
The Log series records traces generated through the interaction between wood and metal. Wood contains tannin, which gradually darkens the surface when brought into prolonged contact with oxidized metal. Using red oak, a wood species with a particularly high tannin content, as its primary material, the works inscribe traces through the repeated friction of oxidized metal objects across the surface.
The wood gradually darkens from a light brown tone, eventually becoming deep black. Iron filings contained within the metal objects audibly evoke repeated movement. Like entries written in a log, the black traces created by two different materials reveal otherwise invisible temporality and movement, visualizing the flow of material transformation.
